Jesus can forgive

Many people wrongly believe that God will not forgive them of their sins. This could relate to a general sense of being lost or it could be related to something in particular that they have done or experienced which has caused them to feel shame or even anger when they think about God.

Perhaps you are in the grip of addiction today – it could be alcohol, drugs, pornography or something else and that has brought you to a low place, you may feel powerless to change. If that’s you there is hope for you today. God can not only forgive you, he can change your heart. Our heartfelt prayer is that you seek God’s forgiveness without delay. The time is urgent because none of us can be sure that we have tomorrow. Time is short and we only live once before we must stand before God.

We need forgiveness

Our problem is that each and every one of us needs forgiveness. You may see yourself as a bad person or a very good person, but what is our real condition before God?

“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23

It is our wrongdoing, our sins, our selfishness which separates us from God. Without forgiveness, there is a separation that exists between us and God, which we can no longer bridge by any amount of human effort or religious commitment.

“But your sins have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear.” Isaiah 59:2

Without God’s forgiveness, we cannot draw close to Him, we are spiritually dead (Ephesians 2:1). We may feel alive, but we are separated from the giver of life and our sin is leading us further and further away from life, and closer to death. “For the wages of sin is death…” (Romans 6:23)

The path for us is death or life and God desires that we would choose life. As the Holy Spirit starts to show us and convict us we start to ask ourselves:

  • What will I do?
  • What hope is there for me?
  • How can I be made right with God?
  • How can I be saved?

He has made a way

The Bible tells us that Jesus has made a way for us. He paid the penalty for our sin and bridged the gap between us and God. There is forgiveness in Jesus for every person who is willing to receive it.

The verse we read earlier goes on to say:

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23

Jesus Christ died on the cross in our place, we did not deserve it but in love for us, Jesus willingly took upon himself the power and penalty of our sin. It is only through the sacrifice of Jesus that there can be a way back to God.

“His blood cleanses from all sin.” 1 John 1:7

“For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus.” 1 Timothy 2:5

“For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God.” 1 Peter 3:18

We have a choice to make

The cross was not the end, on the third day,  Jesus rose from the grave, proving His power over sin and death. God has acted on your behalf, he gave the best he had so that you could be forgiven and set free from your past. Now it’s over to you.

from all sin

1 John 1:17

You can know forgiveness

Here’s a short film about this chance God has given you to change.

It’s time to make a decision. Here’s how you can accept Jesus Christ into your life. You can pray this simple prayer below. (Remember to pray with a sincere heart as you draw close to God and ask Him to receive you, forgive you and cleanse you.)

Let's Pray

“Lord Jesus, I realise I have not lived my life for you up to now. I know that I have gone my own way, I have been living for myself but today I want to turn to you. I ask that you would forgive me of my sins (take a moment to ask God to forgive you for anything specific which comes to mind). Dear God, I do believe Jesus Christ is Your Son. I believe that He died for my sin on the Cross and that you raised Him to life. I want to trust Him as my Savior and follow Him as Lord, from this day forward. I want to live as a follower of Jesus. I ask for you to guide my life and help me to do your will. I pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.”
